Bolognese Sauce

  • 1/2 cup oil (I use canola)
  • 2 red onions finely chopped
  • 1 cup shredded carrots
  • 2 tablespoons celery
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 4 tablespoons spicy tomato sauce
  • ½ cup white wine
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • ½ lemon peel
  • 2 teaspoons of salt
  • 2 crushed garlic cloves
  • 1 pinch of pepper

In a pan, add oil and bring to heat and when hot, add onion, carrot, celery, lightly saute these ingredients and add the ground beef. Continue stirring until lightly browned all. Add tomato sauce, white wine, beef broth, bay leaf and lemon peel. Finally, add salt, pepper and crushed garlic.

Cover the pot and simmer over low heat for 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Serve with white rice, fill a lasagna or serve with any kind of cooked pasta: spaghetti, macaroni, corkscrews, etc.
